Greetings Dancers and Dance Fans!
We're into the second week of our winter session,
and it is shaping up to be really interesting, so we
just wanted to make sure you got the scoop! We're
also very excited about some events coming up in the
area, and wanted to share the news.

Class Content this Winter

...it's all about the grooves...
The classes are asked for input when selecting a
dance for the end-of-session recital, and we have
some interesting choices that I want to make sure
you know about, incase you were still humming and
hawing about which
class to join. You can still get
the low session price, by making up the extra two
classes with a couple visits to the Technique
Workout class.
Mondays 6:30pm : Returning Beginners
This class will be working on a drum solo! Always a
favorite in shows, drum solos are a great chance to
work on precision and timing.
Tuesdays 8:00pm : Returning Beginners
"Happy!" is the theme of this class. We'll work on
an upbeat choreography with a focus on graceful
turns and snappy accents.
Wednesdays 5:00pm : Folklore Tour
We have one more swinging week of Khaliji coming up,
then on January 31st we start with Baladi, February
21st is Saidi, March 14th we wrap up the session
with Tunisian. We focus on each style for 3 weeks.
You can take just one style for only $50.
Thursdays 5:00pm : Returning Beginners
This class was in a mood for the slow, gooey side of
the dance, so we'll be exploring the possibilities
of the chiftitelli rhythm, and will be performing
live with the drumming class.
Thursdays 8:00pm : Intermediate
I'm really excited about this class, they have
decided to focus the entire class and performance on
the Khaliji dance. We'll be dancing to the sublimely
beautiful music of Nasr Musa and Souhail Kaspar.
Four Bar Combos
I've had lots of questions about these classes, so
here's the idea... It's a class designed for mixed
levels. We take 16 beats of music and work on a
combo of a minimum of 4 moves to be performed in
that time. We'll practice the combos with different
songs, so you can learn how they can be adapted to
various situtations. Learning combos is a great way
to drill technique, but also gives you structures on
which you can build improvised performances. We've
decided to only run the Saturday noon time-slot for
these. Drop-ins are welcome, just email by 10am
Saturday to let us know you're coming.

Tribal Style Bellydance Workshop with Valizan, Feb. 3rd
|
|
Khizmet is bringing our great friend Valizan for a
great afternoon of tribal style bellydance. Tribal
style is originally a group improvised style of
bellydance, with precise technique and a joyous
feeling of connection with fellow dancers.
Haft Vadi / Khizmet Bellydance Student
Recital
Khizmet
Bellydance and Haft Vadi are now sister schools
with harmonized schedules, and we will continue to
hold joint recitals at least twice a year. There
will be a recital at the end of March, exact time
and place to be announced.

Workshop with the incomparable Jim Boz, Feb. 17/18
|
|
hot, hot February!
I can't say enough good things about this dancer!
The first time I saw him perform, or even heard of
him for that matter, was at the Tito show sponsored
by Arabesque last winter. My jaw was on the floor
the whole time. His timing, drama, technique,
musical interpretation, expression, connection with
the audience, everything, were just perfect. He's
one of my top 5 favorite dancers, and not "for a
guy." He's up there with Fifi, I'm telling you.
Hannan is offering the workshop with him at a great
reasonable price, and limiting numbers so you'll
actually be able to learn at the workshop. Plus, I
hear he's a party animal, so a good time is guaranteed.
Don't miss it!!
